The journey begins...

After many years of dreaming and a couple of planning, I am 24 hours away from opening Hesperian at Station Approach, Frome, BA11 1RE, next to Frome Train Station.

Inspired by fishing village inns, harbour cafes and fish market kitchens, our Fishmonger, Store and Fish Kitchen, with sustainably sourced seafood is now a reality.

Despite the extraordinary situation we have all faced this year, with the help of many wonderful people we have managed to get the new premises ready, refine our menu and sample our wines (less arduous!) to make sure that you enjoy the freshest caught produce direct from small ports and independent fishing boats.

We are also delighted to have secured Duncan Fear as our Fishmonger. With many years of experience and an award or two, Duncan is greatly looking forward to not only expertly preparing your fish but sharing his knowledge and expertise whether it be a meal for the family, a romantic dinner for two or a dinner party for ten. Together we will keep you updated on the latest information regarding seasonality, sustainability and sourcing so we can help you with the right fish, make suggestions on how to prepare it and help you chose the right bottle of wine to accompany your meal.

In the Kitchen, my sister Kate and I will be sharing the food of our youth, the small simple plates from traditional Fish Markets. A plate of calamari served with Kate’s aioli and a slice of lemon, or our own take on a British classic, with the Hesperian Prawn Cocktail. We hope you will enjoy our latest creation, a Smoked Fish Terrine which is chunky and generous, with a hunk of Rye Bakery Bread and a crisp, cold glass of white.

I’ve got big plans for our Friday Lights and Saturday Specials evenings. Friday Lights, at the end of a busy week, come and wind down with our Tapas style seafood plates, washed down with great local craft beer. Saturday Specials are based around providing classic British seafood dishes that you can enjoy over a bottle of wine with family and friends.

The Kitchen is open 11am to 3pm and 5pm to close Tuesday to Saturday and the Fishmonger counter is open from 9am to 8pm Tuesday to Saturday. You can take anything from our menu home to enjoy, and you can order in advance by phone 01373 800250.
